Charles Duan

Charles Duan is an assistant professor whose research focuses on the public effects of technology policy and intellectual property law, primarily patents and copyrights. His work has included studies on , and social media, and medical research, and competition policy, and .

In addition to his research, Professor Duan has represented nonprofits, scholars, and others through over 150 amicus curiae briefs and administrative comments that have been cited by the , , , and other courts. He writes frequently for , , and other publications.

Prior to joining the WCL faculty, Professor Duan was a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell Tech working with . He was also the Director of Technology and Innovation Policy at the R Street Institute, the Director of the Patent Reform Project at Public Knowledge, and a patent attorney at Knobbe, Martens, Olson & Bear. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard College.
